Slow start

The goal is not “don’t talk to me.” The goal is: don’t make a call the first move.
Before asking for a “quick call,” send the context in writing. Most of the time, one clear message is enough to get help faster. If a call is the right tool, take one and make it useful.
This is the no hello principle applied to calls: send the actual problem, not just a request to talk.

“Quick call?”
Two people stop working before the problem is even named.
What moves work forward
“Here’s the issue, what I tried, and what I need.”
The other person can answer async or decide a call is actually worth it.
You can still be friendly. Just include the actual ask so the conversation can start immediately.

Hey — I’m working on [task]. Goal: [what I’m trying to do] Tried: [what I already tried] Blocked by: [the exact issue] Links / screenshot / PR / logs: [add them here] What I need from you: [decision / review / debugging help / explanation] If this is faster live, happy to jump on a call.
If you are junior or still learning the system, this is enough. It does not need to be perfect. Partial context is still better than “quick call?”
This page is not anti-call. It is anti-call-as-default. Real-time conversation is great when it adds real-time value.
Short versions that set the norm without sounding like a wall.
Async first, call when useful. Please send context before asking for a quick call.
Before “quick call?”, send the context. Most calls can start as one good message.
Async-first communication gives people time to think, preserves focus, and leaves a trail others can learn from later. Calls still have a place. They just work better after the problem is visible.
